Life is perception and our response to it....

The title that I chose for this blog is from a discourse of  swami Tejomayanada of Chinmaya mission and it just pierced inside me as if he had given my thoughts a perfect expression.

With my experiences of life I have come to an understanding  that everything we do, feel, think is relative. It dwells from the experiences we have accumulated by living in the school of life from many lifetimes.

It's like a database of experiences from which we draw our inferences using our intellect, like a machine using artificial intelligence but far more complicated to comprehend.

As long as we are alive we must respond. The nature of our response may vary based on our situation or learning's from our experiences. No one can escape this response till he's alive and the day we stop responding is the day we are dead.

We choose our response based on our comprehension of a particular situation. It's an endless cycle which momentarily seems to end with death of current lifetime, but it persists beyond death like an 'Avinashi'.

The beauty is that we can choose death while we are alive as well. Many saints mention it as 'Jeeteji marna', 'Dead while you are Alive'. Simple words with deeper meaning, one word could be 'Detachment'. This principle is followed by a karma Yogi. Karma Yog is one of the paths defined in Sanatan Dharam for Self Realization. Karm yogi believes that situations in his life are consequence of his own karma. He looks at his daily actions as an experience of Mind (Mann), Intellect (Budhi) and Bodily senses (Indriyan) and therefore, is detached from worldly matters. His perception determines his response of detached Karma.

While a person who keeps himself at the centre of the worldly affairs, perceives this world as the ultimate reality and responds with anger, frustration, happiness, sadness, disappointment and infinite other emotions, a Karma Yogi chooses his response and maintains equanimity (Samta).

So yes, rightly put, life is perception and our response to it.
